Rho Delta
Rho Delta (Latin for Royal Daughters) is a club that was founded more than eighty years ago with ten members of a girls Sunday School class. Their purpose was to get together for fun and fellowship and do one good thing for the church every month.
Today we still carry on that spirit of togetherness and enjoyment for the good of the church. We meet on the second Tuesday of every month in the all-purpose room. The evening begins at 7:00 pm with a business meeting. A Rho Delta member plays hostess and provides punch and table nibbles. Following the partially informal proceedings is entertainment, a craft, or a game – whatever the hostess has planned. Many meetings have a theme with decorations and lots of fun. Next, there is coffee and dessert provided by the night’s hostess. The meeting ends by 9:00 pm.
Rho Delta raises funds by running the Thrift Shop, the Christmas Candlelight Shopping Nights, the Strawberry Supper, the May Breakfast, and some private functions when the club is able to do them. The money that Rho Delta makes is spent in a variety of ways. One large chunk every year is the pledge to the church’s operating budget. Many upgrades to the church have been paid for by Rho Delta. Recent purchases include new chairs for the balcony and choir, new choir robes and stoles, and a couch for the church nursery. The Rho Delts also donate money every year to various causes, including The American Cancer Society, Sojourner House, Ronald McDonald House, The Wounded Warrior Project, and the Rhode Island Family Shelter. We sponsor a boy in Honduras and a girl in Africa. We give to local families in need and support our community food and heating assistance efforts. Rho Delta also provides funeral collations for friends and family of our church.
